Emergencies

Emergencies happen. Unfortunately they often happen on weekends, holidays, and overnight, but when they happen during business hours, we are here to help. Many emergencies can be facilitated through our hospital, but some cases require intensive or specialized care. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us immediately. Please call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency. In some cases, going directly to one of our local emergency hospitals may be recommended.

We work closely with our local emergency referral hospitals so that our patients get the best care. We will follow up with their doctors who are caring for your pet throughout their stay. In this way, we can stay current on what care is being provided and provide any additional support.

Below, you will find contact information for Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, Animal Emergency Hospital and Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Byron Center. All of them offer 24/7 emergency care on a walk-in basis and work closely with Northland Animal Hospital to formulate care plans. We hope you never find yourself in need of emergency help, but know that we are here for you should the situation arise.

BluePearl Pet Hospital and Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Byron Center have the added benefit of having board-certified specialty doctors on staff. These are doctors who have completed additional training and passed a rigorous examination in a specific field such as internal medicine, surgery, or critical care. In some cases, these doctors can provide services that we at Northland are unable to help with. If this is the case, we will recommend a consultation at one of their facilities. For certain emergencies, your veterinarian at Northland may recommend one of these facilities so that a specialist can be involved right from the start. We maintain excellent relationships with the doctors at all of these hospitals so that we can offer your pet the best care possible, even if it isn’t at our hospital. Your pet is our number one priority. If your pet would be better served at another hospital, we will be sure to help facilitate the appointment and send along any records that may be helpful!
